With chimney sweeping, on arrival, the chimney pot is checked for any cracks or whether it is loose. We also check for appropriate cowls or bird guards. These reduce the likelihood of nesting birds blocking up your chimney from the top. (See Here)
A high powered torch is used to look up the flue to check what type and size the flue is in order to choose the correct size and bristle brush and what type of rod should be used. Using the wrong combination could risk damaging the flue or chimney stack.
The floor is covered with clean sheets and the fireplace is completely sealed before any work is started. This maximises the controlled cleanliness of this potentially dirty job.
The flue is swept properly and the soot is removed with a specialist vacuum cleaner. No mess is left behind at all, the room is left as clean as it was on arrival.
A smoke evacuation test is carried out and a NACS chimney sweeping certificate is issued.
It is recommended that in normal use chimneys should be swept as follows:
